Pentecost and Pictures

I've been so excited for Pentecost this year.  I find it to be such a feast filled with hope and awe of what God wants to do with the Church and with you.  The God of the universe wants to dwell inside you and has something amazing for you.  That healing you've been seeking, that call you've been discerning, that hole that's been longing to be filled...He wants to do it.  Do you believe that?  You should.  It's true.

May we open our hearts and souls wide to whatever it is that the Spirit wants to do with us.  May He transform us, renew us, and set our souls on fire.

 from the Sequence of Pentecost Mass:

Come, Holy Spirit, come!
And from your celestial home
Shed a ray of light divine!

Come, Father of the poor!
Come, source of all our store!
Come, within our bosoms shine.

You, of comforters the best;
You, the soul’s most welcome guest;
Sweet refreshment here below;

In our labor, rest most sweet;
Grateful coolness in the heat;
Solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed Light divine,
Shine within these hearts of yours,
And our inmost being fill!

Where you are not, we have naught,
Nothing good in deed or thought,
Nothing free from taint of ill.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour your dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away:

Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adore
And confess you, evermore
In your sevenfold gift descend;

Give them virtue’s sure reward;
Give them your salvation, Lord;
Give them joys that never end. Amen.

Alleluia.

The pouring rain is thwarting our Pentecost cookout and bonfire but at least we got a little Fruits of the Spirit Salad in at brunch this morning.  The boys wore what little red they had and can you believe I don't have a red shirt?  Believe it.

A full 12 fruits representin'

Life has been busy and good with little time for blogging but I hope to post more soon when I can.

Hope you're having a wonderful Pentecost Sunday!

And now for some random and mediocre pictures...proof that I have been neglectful in the drag-your-camera-everywhere blogging department:

  1. Every year Pentecost rolls around and I realize I don't have any red!!! It's kind of pitiful, honestly... Ah well, what can you do? Other than buy something red, I mean...

  3. I wore red but reluctantly I have to say. Is it wrong that it felt so wrong? It's just did not feel right for summer, which I'm super excited about. Honestly I don't know if I'll wear it next year. Maybe.

    1. Ha! And there I am in summer wearing a red dress. That settles it, IF I am pregnant next Pentecost I will wear that red maternity dress. (If only because when it's maternity I feel pretty 'meh' about my options anyway.)

    2. Oh my goodness, no, I think the SAME THING. Red is a winter color, right? I love love love the liturgical year but I do have a secret wish to change the colors around a bit!

    3. Orange feels summery to me and I think calls to mind tongues of fire as much as red does (perhaps more so?). I say we start a new trend.
