Outside my window...
A dark and bitter cold January before the dawn.
Thankful for...
All your prayers for our family. The time with baby Charles. Brian. My boys.
Thinking about...
Blogging. Well, not really. I'm thinking I should be thinking about blogging but I'm not. There are so many amazing bloggers out there. People who take this outlet to a whole different level than I do. People with far greater gifts in this area than I could ever hope to have. But I'm just going to keep plugging along here at my humble little place and just let it be whatever He wants it to be. I'm usually pretty okay with that.
Learning...
Yesterday John Paul asked if we could have a day off of lessons soon to just do whatever. As if we didn't just take a full month off for Christmas and the end of Advent. I think he was a little disturbed when it dawned on him that other kids had Martin Luther King, Jr. Day off and we - gasp! - didn't. Nor do we really do snow days. Ah, the agony he must endure of month-long vacations, hours of Lego time, no bus rides, a two or three hour school day, days off for solemnities...
From the kitchen...
I made a batch of elderberry syrup to help ward off the flus and colds going around. At first we were taking it directly by the spoon at night but now I've been putting a generous shot of it into a green smoothie to share every other morning or so. The goodness of the smoothie, the syrup, lots of vitamin C, and a generous dose of luck and so far we haven't been hit (yet) by any of the year's sicknesses. Which is such a gift compared to the last two years and I'm not forgetting to be crazy grateful for that.
Creating...
Our new laundry room!
Going...
As few places as possible over the next week. This frigid cold snap will keep us cozy indoors. I'm trying to make the best of it and appreciate it for what it is and the gift that it can be.
Reading...
Lumen Fidei by Pope Francis
Orthodoxy by Chesterton
I keep thinking that at some point in my life I should read Dante's Divine Comedy but I have yet to pick it up so that's going well.
Praying...
for Erin, Rick, and their family
for those struggling with infertility
for Theresa
for those with lots of little ones who are overwhelmed and just plain exhausted
for an end to abortion and the conversion of all those who work in the abortion industry
for those marching in D.C.
Around the house...
We're slowly getting that laundry room together. Other than that, not enough vacuuming and a whole lot of Legos.
When I first started blogging a few years ago, I often compared my little web space with others. Then I finally relaxed into my own style and my own (sporadic) rhythm of posting. It came down to the word intention, (which is my word this year), and I realized my intention was not to become famous, get hired by Lisa Hendy, or even to be predictable. My intention was to write when I feel like it, share what's important to me and to find kindred spirits through blogging. Such a relief to ~as you said~ just be okay with that. :)
ReplyDeleteYour space here is a blessing to me, so I'm grateful for how you do things here. :) I say keep on keepin on because you don't know the way grace extends your reach. xo
ReplyDeleteA lovely daybook. :) Your little space on the web is like visiting the home of a good friend. I always mean to comment more but my kids would go unfed. But I'm always popping in your door to be refreshed!
ReplyDeleteI too always love your space on the web, and that photo - so adorable!
