Sad Water, Happy Water

This week Cari's Theme Thursday is "water" which is quite appropriate since it feels like we have had nothing but water for months now.  I know it's ridiculous to feel angry about the weather but I'm really trying not to be.  See, we had the epic winter of misery here and when you live up north we crave spring and summer and we milk every last drop we can out of the beautiful weather.  But this spring just plain bites.  We've had crazy amounts of rain and our yard has been flooded most of May and June.  We've been stuck inside driving each other crazy at least every other day with either more rain or just chilly cold temperatures.  I know, I know, it's not hurricanes or tornadoes or tsunamis.  I'm grateful we don't have to worry about those things.  But I still think we've been gypped.  And I'm cranky about it.

This was last week and thankfully, most of the sitting water has gone and it's now just mush yard.  Our garden is a mess right now.  I can't really go back there or I get cranky about that, too.  I can't do any work in there with Luke around and any time I've had the energy or time during nap it's been...wait for it...raining.  Brian's been trying to get stuff done but we're far behind and I'm setting my expectations low lest I get crankier.  Our farmer behind us hasn't been able to plow or plant back there because of all the rain which makes me sad, too.

Man, I am just a big ole shiny happy ball of sunshine, aren't I?

Here, since I've been dreaming of vacation, let's look at some of my favorite water pictures from our big trip west last year:

There, I feel better.  And now I really really want to go on vacation.  Today it actually IS perfectly beautiful out and I'm grateful for that.  I'm celebrating by sitting inside a sketchy archery store surrounded by mounted animal heads where the older two boys take their lessons.  But, no fear, the rest of the day we've been outside and Mr. Michael has a baseball game later so all is good.

See more water over at Cari's!

  1. Forgive my ignorance! Are those first few Yellowstone? The mirror picture reminds me of Mirror Lake in Yosemite. Beautiful pictures.

Hang in there with the weather! We haven't been able to mow for nearly a week because we have had constant thunderstorms. After years of drought, we're grateful, but cabin fever can start to set in.

    1. Yep, Yellowstone! That was one of the smaller lakes since we didn't have time to drive out to the larger one (Rainbow Pool?) We spent a crazy day there trying to see everything on our drive from Colorado to Oregon. You definitely need more than a day to do Yellowstone!

  2. I always have to have a vacation planned for the future or I get depressed. I don't even care if it's 2 years away, just as long as we are planning it. Next up, Indianapolis in August! I'm really thinking the drive to MA wouldn't be too long for you all....

Hoping the rains are pretty much gone and the nice weather is here to stay for you!

  4. Bummer about the wet yard and garden - that would really make me cranky, too. I just love your garden set up - still dream about doing something similar if we ever have land. We had an unusually dry spring here, and it's made me so happy.

Seeing pics of your time out here made me smile - good memories!!
