One month until our country's elections. And at the risk of sounding dramatic, I think we need to realize the enormity of this election. I'm asking you to join with those of us who have been praying and fasting for the outcome of these elections in November every first Tuesday of the month. I'm asking begging pleading with you to pray with us.
I believe with all my heart that God cares about who gets elected and He wants our participation in the process through prayer, action, and voting. Please pray for and vote for leaders who will respect our freedoms, most especially our right to exist (kinda important, that one) and our right to live out our religion and obey conscience. Pray that the Church will rise up and defend the most innocent from those who would dismiss them as inconvenience. No, there is no perfect candidate for any office, just as there are no perfect people on this God given earth. But there are people who can change things for the better however slowly that happens.
Start right now and pray even if you haven't joined us before. We'd love to have you :)
PRAYER BEFORE AN ELECTION
Lord God,
as the election approaches,
we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city, state, and country,
and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community.
We ask for eyes that are free from blindness
so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters,
one and equal in dignity,
especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.
We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn and those abandoned,
men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender.
We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to
your Kingdom.
We pray for discernment
so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word,
live your love,
and keep in the ways of your truth
as they follow in the steps of Jesus and his Apostles
and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
