Yes...This is great, I need to put a post together. Yes to what you said about getting stressed and trying to cram too much into the day. I now have 4 kids in our homeschool and it is harder for me to get everyone's stuff done by the end of the day. This week the two older boys were gone to camp and I was just doing some summer homeschooling with the two youngest. Way easier, and I found my love of teaching my children again. Last year burned me out a bit, and we start high school this year with our oldest, which is giving me panic attacks. Thanks for your summary, very encouraging!Amy @ Consecrated Housewifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00388283707930930940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640846201971673514.post-79487103498014236752014-06-17T01:03:07.844-04:002014-06-17T01:03:07.844-04:00Yes, thanks Mary! I think it...I rarely give formal tests to my kids. I think it's part of that whole intuitive thing. You know when your child gets something or doesn't and if they don't get it, we need to keep working on it. For math, I simply correct their work for the day and you can tell if they're misunderstanding or getting it and if they have mistakes where they are making them and fix it on the spot. Or spelling words I quiz out loud. I think as they get older I'll want to use them more and I can see the need for them if you have more than a few children and most of the work is independent. A lot of the curricula have built in or separate tests you can give the kids but I just haven't seen the need for us yet. For the state testing, I've bought the CAT tests from Seton and administered them myself. They grade them and send them back. I have a whooooolllle lot of thoughts on those... Does that answer??Mary @ Better Than Edenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05409924891343767874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640846201971673514.post-82679943181746581172014-06-13T15:23:36.249-04:002014-06-13T15:23:36.249-04:00Hi Mary. However, when you do this, how does it work for testing? Because when you follow a program, like Seton, hey provide testif materials. I would be grateful for your input. I don't hate it, but I can see a time when that might be a possibility.

I think what you said about being disciplined is so true! I love all of your tips, and agree about preschool. I stressed out way too much about it last year. I definitely need to work on limiting screen time. Hopefully a big backyard will help with that! I've been following your blog for a while, and just wanted to say that you have the sweetest boys! My husband and I are going to a homeschooling conference next week and I'm really looking forward to it, although I KNOW that he just wants to go with a Seton curriculum straight out of the box because that's what all his homeschooled friends used and he thinks it's the most hardcore :P Somehow I doubt I'll be satisfied with an entire curriculum as-is!Rosiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12888635342531960478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-640846201971673514.post-35435631772851011642014-06-11T11:22:40.703-04:002014-06-11T11:22:40.703-04:00Thank you for this post. My oldest will got to a local Catholic high school and the remaining 5 will be at home with me. I have so many little regrets as I wish I had listened to my gut much earlier in my parenting life. I, too, wish I had a basement in our 86 year old house! You have a beautiful family and I look forward to reading your blog!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551005149997186970noreply@blogger.com
