Dear Sallie

Dear Sallie,
It's time.  I have to tell you that I've ended our relationship.  It wasn't you, really.  Well, sort of it was you.  I did love you at the beginning.  In fact, it was I who pursued you and asked for you to come.  You offered and gave so much promise, hope, and the offering of a different way of life.  In fact, I hardly knew you were there in the beginning, patiently waiting in the background as you allowed me to pursue dreams, meet friends, learn, and even fall in love.  I really didn't know what you were all about but it was okay.  You just gave.
I'm grateful.  Really, I am.  I certainly didn't deserve you but with just my promise, you opened up to me and allowed me to do so much I never would have been able to otherwise.

But now it's time.  It's time to let you go.  Because soon after you gave and I had used what you gave me, I felt your tap on my shoulder and it began.  The notes.  The demands.  The constant reminders.  Would she let me do this?  Is she going to prevent us from that?  It was right to pay you back for all that you gave, I know.  It's been a long time, though, and I have finally met your demands.  It's time to make the break.  No, I don't hate you but I already feel freer now that you are gone.   Dear, it's over.  And you know what?  I couldn't be happier and it feels so good.
Sincerely,
Mary
P.S.  Would it be rude to ask one favor?  Would you help me find a way to give your much larger cousin the same news on behalf of my husband?  Then we could  really get on with our life.  Thanks, hon.

A very happy and husband-cringe-worthy break-up shot.  You're welcome.

  5. Mary, I'm not joking when I say I just paid $400 so that my hubby's Sallie Mae loan balance would finally be *under the total principle borrowed*. Take a minute to process how painful that is, will you? But now. But now we're in the green and there's no stoppin' us!
